AI has been a passion of mine for years, and it’s changed the way I work. It’s helped me step up in my day job, and in the past few months I’ve learned more than in all my years at school, picking up new concepts faster than I ever thought I could.

Add a love of building, a keen eye for design and real care for how things feel to use, and starting axolot felt like the natural next step.

Who’s behind it

Not a trained developer. Won’t pretend to be.

By day, I work as a Systems and Sales Coordinator. When my team needed better reporting, I offered to have a go. I taught myself Power BI in about three months and built the dashboards we now use to see how things are going.

Why I build with AI

The moment axolot was waiting for.

I’ve wanted to build things for as long as I can remember. The barrier was always code, and between a full-time job and everything else, I never had the years it takes to learn it.

I’ve followed every generation of AI since the first models. Early on they could help with pieces, but not deliver something complete, reliable and secure. I wasn’t willing to put my name to anything less.

That’s changed. AI still isn’t perfect. But with careful orchestration, cross-checks and thorough checklists at every stage, what it can help build is impressive.

Many agencies already use AI behind the scenes. I’d rather be open about it, because it works in your favour.

What I’ll always be honest about

I’d rather lose a project than risk your business.

If a project needs something I can’t deliver well, I’ll tell you before we start, not after.

That’s especially true for security. Projects handling large amounts of sensitive data, complex payments or strict compliance may need specialist expertise. If yours is one, I’ll say so upfront and talk you through your options, whether that’s bringing in a specialist or recommending someone better suited.

Why I do this

There’s nothing quite like seeing a tool I’ve made save someone time.

axolot is a business, and I won’t pretend otherwise. But what gets me out of bed is the building itself: taking an idea, working out how the pieces fit, and watching it turn into something that works. If I’m building something for you, it’s because I want it to make a real difference to how you work.

The name

Why “axolot”?

A few things about this little salamander felt right for the studio.

ax·o·lotl/ˈak-sə-ˌlä-tᵊl/

noun

  1. A small salamander from the lakes around Mexico City.
  2. A studio that keeps learning, rebuilds without fuss and fits itself around your business.
  • It never stops growingAxolotls keep their young features their whole lives. To me that’s staying curious: always learning, never assuming I know it all.
  • It rebuilds and improvesAxolotls regrow lost limbs, even parts of their heart. Good websites work the same way: anything can be adjusted, rebuilt or improved as your business grows.
  • It adapts to its surroundingsEvery business is different, so every project starts with understanding yours, not squeezing it into a template.
  • And it’s always smilingBuilding things should be enjoyable, for you and for me. I hope working with axolot feels that way.
